Group Training Classes
The Muckyhound Dog Training group classes are run a number of times per year.
Good Behaviour Levels 1 & 2 provide instruction on how to teach your dog the basics required to live in harmony with humans. The primary focus for adolescent and adult dogs is on developing impulse control, which is the key to good dog behaviour.
Puppy Life Skills are fun sessions aimed at introducing your puppy to other doggy friends and instruction on how to teach them the life skills necessary to cope with the demands of living with human rules and requirements.
Our group training session are run in a controlled group environment, not exceeding 4 dogs and their handlers.
Puppy Life Skills
Puppy Life Skills is designed to educate the ‘humans’ on how to work with their puppy to develop balanced behaviour; all puppies and new puppy families need to learn a new vocabulary. More difficult behaviours are introduced gradually with homework to be completed in-between each session!
Fun off-lead play sessions with the other puppies are part of every class.

- Problem behaviours such as jumping up, house training and play biting
- Sit, Stay
- Down, Stay
- Addressing wait behaviour in real life situations
- Focus Work (Look) for use in stressful situations
- Leave it – Working on household objects your puppy loves to ‘steal’
- Lead walking basics
- Recall foundations
Admission Restrictions:
- We encourage all family members to attend
- Puppies must start before reaching 18 weeks of age
- Puppies must have had their second set of vaccinations
- Pups should not have any infectious ailments such as Canine Cough or Conjunctivitis.
Good Behaviour Level 1
Our Good Behaviour Level 1 Course is for dogs over 6 months old. The course is designed as the first steps towards basic obedience training and provides instruction on how to teach your dog the basics required to live in harmony with humans.
In a controlled group environment, the primary focus is on developing the dog’s impulse control, which is the core element of good dog behaviour as well as establishing a mutually understood vocabulary between dog and human. No previous training knowledge is required.

The following behaviours will be covered:
- Sit, Stay
- Down, Stay
- Addressing wait behaviour in real life situations, i.e: in the car while putting on a lead, at a door leading out into a road, etc.
- Focus Work (Look) for use in stressful situations
- Targeting (sustained hand touch)
- Leave it, working on household objects your dog loves to ‘steal’
- Loose Lead Walking
- Recall Foundation
Good Behaviour Level 2
Our Good Behaviour Level 2 Course is a step up from level 1. The course builds on the foundation behaviours, trick’s and lessons learnt previously in level 1. Homework focusing on real life situations are given to human and canine students.

Here’s some of the behaviours that are covered:
- Visual cues – making sure your dog TRULY knows the behaviours associated with “sit”, “down” and “stand” – sounds easy, try standing in a corner, facing the wall, and asking your dog to lie down.
- Sit-Stay & Down-Stay – here we move far beyond the normal training for sit and down stays, we push the behaviours with more distraction, more distance and more duration.
- Wait & Leave-it – Generalising wait, making sure that even without any cue your dog won’t go through a door or similar openings without you having to say ‘wait’.
- Loose Lead Walking – During the lead walking part of the programme handler and dog are put through their passes, tackling walking routes with increased obstacles and distractions
